The United States government has filed a lawsuit against the Estate of Duverney B. Matlack in the District of New Jersey, seeking access to a property that is part of the Matlack, Inc. Superfund Site. The complaint, filed on behalf of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), aims to secure entry to remediate hazardous substances on the 71.8-acre parcel located in Swedesboro, New Jersey. The site, previously used for cleaning trucks and tankers transporting hazardous materials, requires significant cleanup efforts due to contamination from chemicals like benzene and trichloroethene. Despite attempts by the EPA to identify a representative for the estate who can grant access, no authorized individual has been found.

The court filing requests an order allowing EPA and its representatives access to conduct necessary response actions over a period of 30 years. This legal action underscores ongoing challenges in managing and remediating contaminated sites across the country.
