A former employee has filed a lawsuit against a major children’s hospital, alleging gender discrimination and retaliation for opposing illegal directives. On February 16, 2026, Joshua Cloud filed a complaint in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey against the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The lawsuit accuses the hospital of violating multiple laws, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and various New Jersey state laws.

The case stems from Cloud’s employment as a Senior Director of Information Security Operations at the hospital. Hired on November 11, 2024, Cloud claims he faced ongoing discrimination based on his gender by his supervisor, Monique St. John. According to Cloud, St. John frequently demeaned him and other male employees while treating female colleagues more favorably. He alleges that St. John’s comments about his work and personal life were rooted in gender stereotypes, such as criticizing him for not being “stressed enough” or implying he was an inadequate father.

Cloud’s complaint also highlights a significant issue regarding insurance fraud. He alleges that he was pressured by management to falsify information on an IT Security Questionnaire related to insurance liability—a request he refused due to its illegality. Following his refusal and subsequent complaints about both the discriminatory treatment and pressure to commit fraud, Cloud asserts that his work environment became increasingly hostile.

In early February 2025, Cloud took his concerns to Human Resources, reporting both the gender discrimination and unethical requests made by management. Despite these efforts to address the issues internally, Cloud was terminated on February 21, 2025—just one day after reiterating his complaints to HR and indicating plans to escalate them further within the organization.

The lawsuit seeks compensatory damages for lost wages and benefits due to wrongful termination under pretextual circumstances. Additionally, it demands punitive damages for what is described as willful misconduct by the defendant. Cloud also requests coverage of legal fees incurred during this process.

Representing Joshua Cloud is Ari R. Karpf from Karpf, Karpf & Cerutti P.C., while details about attorneys representing the Children’s Hospital are not specified in this document. The case is identified as Case No: 1:26-cv-01492.
