An Essex County man has admitted to multiple firearms offenses, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Alina Habba. Kaiyir Green, aged 22 from Newark, New Jersey, pleaded guilty in Trenton federal court before U.S. District Judge Georgette Castner. The charges include two counts of possession of a firearm and/or ammunition by a convicted felon, one count of illegal possession of a machine gun, and one count of possession of an unregistered firearm.

Court documents reveal that on March 1, 2023, law enforcement responded to a report concerning a stolen vehicle and saw Green trying to enter it. Upon being approached by officers, Green fled but was eventually caught after a prolonged foot chase. Officers found him with a “ghost gun” loaded with five rounds. Following his arrest, Green made calls from detention instructing others to remove items from his home, including a “black bag.” A subsequent search revealed the bag contained a fully automatic firearm loaded with ammunition and a large capacity magazine.

The investigation involved members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ Newark Field Division led by Special Agent L.C. Cheeks Jr., New Jersey State Police under Col. Patrick J. Callahan’s direction, and Elizabeth Police Department headed by Chief Giacomo Sacca.

Each charge related to felon possession carries up to 15 years in prison and fines reaching $250,000. The charge for possessing an unregistered firearm could result in up to 10 years in prison and fines up to $10,000.

Green’s sentencing is set for November 25, 2025. Assistant United States Attorney Rachelle M. Navarro represents the government in this case.

Defense counsel for Green is Claressa Lowe Esq.
