Attorney General investigates police-involved shooting in Orange Township

The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is conducting an investigation into a police-involved shooting that took place on Sunday, November 9, 2025. The incident occurred at approximately 2:10 p.m. after a vehicular pursuit ended in Orange Township, Essex County.

According to officials, one male civilian was injured during the encounter with New Jersey State Police troopers. Authorities have not released the identities of either the civilian or the officers involved.

The Attorney General’s Office stated that the investigation remains ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.

Under guidelines known as the Independent Prosecutor Directive, the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA) determines which agency will conduct independent investigations of officer-involved shootings. In cases involving New Jersey State Police, OPIA acts as the default independent investigator.
